Welcome to the GRUVEE Cruise blog. Here we'll be sharing our adventures at sea while we are on the Research Vessel Atlantis near the Galapagos Islands. We'll be telling you about everything from what cool things the observers in the Alvin submersible see each day to what it's like to spend a month on a ship. We'll write about what we sea creatures we see, what volcanic features we can make out, and what kind of samples we collect. We'll tell you about the weather and the waves and what's for dinner.
Most of the posts will be written by me, Buffy Cushman-Patz, Teacher At Sea. I'm a geologist by training (and this was my study area!), but currently happily teaching high school science and math. While I'm on the cruise, my job is to communicate with anyone who's interested in following our adventures, helping to explain the cutting-edge science we'll be doing. I'll be creating lessons for my own students back at home in Honolulu based on the data we collect every day at sea, and sharing those lessons here on the blog and in the Learning Center portion of our GRUVEE web page (see link at right).
But we'll also have guest bloggers... other scientists, graduate students, and maybe even an Alvin pilot or crew member, if we can talk them into it. If not, I'll interview them for you and
share their insights here!
If you've got questions or comments, please contact us. We'd love to hear from you! Let us know what you like and what you'd like more of. If something doesn't make sense, ask away and we'll be sure to clarify.
Looking forward to it! Aloha!
